Trauma Centers

Immediate access to the highest level of care

We provide access to an integrated network of highly trained specialists in trauma surgery, neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery, anesthesiology, radiology and emergency medicine, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Our system uses evidenced-based protocols for different types of injuries and age groups. We realize that even seemingly minor injuries to our older adults can result in life-altering disabilities or complications. We follow an evidence-based protocol that identifies and treats older trauma patients who are at greatest risk for developing complications due to pre-existing medical conditions.

Our Level I and II trauma centers are designated by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and verified by the American College of Surgeons’ Committee on Trauma to provide the highest standard of trauma care for critically ill patients.

St. Anthony Hospital is designated as a Level I Trauma Center, the highest level of emergency and trauma care for patients with highly complex injuries.

Penrose Hospital is designated as a Level II Trauma Center, which means this facility provides trauma care for acute patients including 24-hour access to surgeons (within 15 minutes or less), a broad spectrum of specialists and in-house anesthesia.

Comprehensive injury prevention programs

Our injury prevention programs are specifically targeted to the most common injuries in our community.
